One of my all-time favorite books is The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle. In my opinion he truly simplifies and gets to the core of Spirituality. The premise is basically the power of being in the present moment.
Here’s a quote from Eckhart that will help us understand the basis of his book: “Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now.”
So the concept is there is no such thing as the past or the present, there is only the now. We cannot go back to a time in the past…it’s just a mental construct, a memory. There is no such thing as the future because when it gets here, it’s instantly the now, the present. There is only the present moment and what we do with it.
When we learn to be fully present and not caught up in the incessant chatter of the brain, we actually connect to our nature, to our Source. This is where hope lives, calmness, peace, contentment, love, they all reside within us – in the now. We can also connect to Divine Wisdom here so we can come up with organic, creative thought, solutions and actions when necessary. It’s effortless and very natural.
We live in such a fast-paced world that it can be difficult to slow down and become present. However if we practice it, we find that it’s the most natural thing we can do. Besides, we do things that are difficult all the time and almost none of them offer happiness, fulfillment and a more enjoyable future as a reward. Take the time to practice being present, in the now and connected to your Source. From that place you’ll find all you’re seeking by gradually understanding that you already have it within you.
Oh yeah, and read or listen to The Power Of Now…it can change your life!
